In our Centre, aside from the typical subjects we also have opportunities to engage in several Teacher Training Courses conducted by different facilitators. One of them is "21st Century Teaching Skills Course 2019" which took us from January until October to complete the course and it was conducted by Miss Amy J. Delph.
It was last year that some of us attended the course and there were about a total of 18 people including the trainer. The course has 10 topics which we went through one by one each month. For the lessons, we all used an app called "Schoology" to be able to access to the course. And, of course, no class is without assignments, therefore we had to complete the tasks given under each topic.
On Mondays of the first week of the month, we had a class with the trainer in one of the dormitories where we discussed the lessons and topics we were uncertain about. Moreover, we also played games which made the class more thrilling and lively.
As time flied, we experienced various activities related to the lessons being taught. One of the topics is called "Teachers as Storytellers" where each one of us tried turning certain lessons into a story for the classes that we teach in the refugee community schools. The outcomes from what had been practised were positive as it attracted students' attention and pulled them into a story. It is one of the most useful tool for teachers to use at any time, especially for primary classes. Well, of course, the rest of the other topics that are not mentioned were also indeed useful.
As we came through till the end of the course, we had better quality of times with our students and with friends within the class too. Personally, it has been a well-used time for me, not just getting better at teaching but also understanding the students more than before (a lesson from dealing with emotions).
Throughout the year, we have learned and developed ourselves to be intelligent teachers and brilliant students. After having completed the training, the graduation ceremony was held on 19th December, 2019 at (Mary) a name of one of the dorms.
Everyone was so delighted, receiving our certificates of accomplishment. Another batch of students are currently having the training too. We are extraordinarily grateful to Miss Amy for her charitable time, knowledge and care given to us from her generous heart. And of course, so much thanks to Pastor Michael Moey for helping out with what we needed.
